Placing Cameras and FOV Cones

Applies to Apple TV Updated 2 min read

Once you've set up your Site Map background, you can place camera pins to show exactly where each camera is located and which direction it's pointing.

Adding Cameras to the Map

  1. Go to Settings > Site Map > Cameras.
  2. Select which cameras you want to appear on the map.
  3. Return to the Map tab to see your cameras as pins on the canvas.

Positioning Camera Pins

Site Map edit mode with camera pins and zone assignments

  1. Enter edit mode by selecting Edit Site Map (from the Map tab or Home quick actions).
  2. Drag a camera pin to its correct position on the floor plan.
  3. Repeat for each camera.
  4. Exit edit mode when finished.

Field-of-View (FOV) Cones

Each camera pin displays a field-of-view cone — a wedge-shaped overlay showing the camera's viewing angle and direction. This makes it easy to see:

  • Which direction each camera is pointed
  • What area each camera covers
  • Where there might be gaps in coverage

You can rotate the FOV cone to match the camera's actual direction during placement. The cone direction and position are saved automatically.

Live Event Indicators

When a camera detects an event (motion, person, vehicle, etc.), its pin on the map pulses red. This gives you instant spatial awareness of where activity is happening on your property.

Tips

  • Start with a rough placement and refine as needed — you can always move pins later.
  • FOV cones are a visual guide. They don't need to be pixel-perfect to be useful.
  • Use the map as your primary monitoring view for spatial awareness of events across your property.
