Photograph the Installation

Applies to IC Scout Updated 2 min read

Scout keeps installation photos against each device in a site, and puts them into the PDF report. These are photos of the hardware and the install work, not camera footage.

Add photos to a device

  1. Open a site, then a device within it.
  2. Choose Photos.
  3. Either take a photo now with the camera, or import one already in your library.
  4. Repeat for each device that is worth documenting.

Thumbnails appear in a gallery. Tap one to view it full screen.

What is worth photographing

The useful rule: photograph anything a future technician would otherwise have to open a ceiling to find out.

  • The mounted device in place, wide enough to show where it is on the building
  • The cable route and entry point, especially where it disappears into a wall or soffit
  • The connection, the PoE port used on the switch or recorder
  • Anything unusual you had to do, a non-standard bracket, a drilled penetration, an existing cable you reused
  • Pre-existing damage, before you start. This is the photo that settles a dispute later

Why it ends up mattering

  • The report shows the customer what they paid for and where it went.
  • A service technician diagnoses from the photo instead of from a ladder.
  • Damage disputes are settled by the photo you took before you touched anything.

Photos stay on the phone

Photos are stored in the site record on the device, and sites do not sync anywhere. Generate the PDF report and get it off the phone at the end of the job, or the documentation exists in one place only.
