Device detail screen after signing in, showing the management options

Once a device has a password, Scout can sign in to it and change the settings that matter on the day of the install: what each channel is called, and what time the device thinks it is.

Sign in to the device

  1. Tap an Initialized device.
  2. Enter the admin password when prompted.
  3. The detail screen now shows device information and the management options.

Scout holds the credentials in the iPhone keychain for the session so you are not retyping the password on every device at the same site.

Set the channel titles

Channel titles are what appear over the video everywhere afterwards: in the recorder, in the customer's app, in the exported report. Setting them correctly at install time saves a support call later.

  1. Open Channel Titles.
  2. Name each channel for the place it is actually pointing. "Front Door", "Rear Alley", "Warehouse Bay 3".
  3. Save.

Use the names the customer uses out loud. "Camera 4" tells nobody anything six months later.

Set time and NTP

Wrong clocks are the single most common cause of "I cannot find the footage" calls. Recorded events are stamped with the device's own clock, so if the clock drifts the customer searches the wrong window.

  1. Open Time Sync.
  2. Set the timezone to the site's actual timezone, not yours if you are working remotely.
  3. Enable NTP and set the server the customer's network allows. If their network blocks outbound NTP, point it at the recorder or a local server instead.
  4. Save, then confirm the time on the device now reads correctly.

Capture a snapshot

Tap Capture Snapshot to pull a still from the camera. Snapshots are stored against the device and are included automatically in the PDF install report, which is the easiest way to prove at handover that every camera was aimed correctly.
