Missing Events in Playback or AI Search
Motion, IMD, and IVS events aren't all searched or indexed in the same way. Start by identifying whether you're missing recorded video, event markings on the playback timeline, or human/vehicle results in AI Search.
The storage recording schedule controls scheduled recordings and their types on the playback timeline. IMD human/vehicle results are saved and indexed separately in AI Search and can exist outside that recording schedule. A missing timeline marker doesn't necessarily mean there's no recorded video or IMD result.
Menu names and available features vary by recorder capabilities, interface, and firmware.

Choose the Right Search
| What You Want to Find | Where to Check |
|---|---|
| Recorded video by date and time | Playback. Select the channel, date, time range, and applicable recording-type filters. |
| Motion or IVS event markings on the timeline | Playback, the event recording types in the storage schedule, and the playback filters. Continuous video may still be available even if event markings are missing. |
| IMD human/vehicle detection results | AI Search > iMD, or the corresponding intelligent-search menu on older interfaces. These results use separate storage/indexing from the standard playback timeline. |
| IVS rule results | AI Search > IVS where available. Timeline event recordings and AI Search results should be checked in their respective menus. |
For search-menu instructions, see Smart/AI Search. For older web interfaces, see Legacy Web UI Playback.
Confirm Detection Is Working
- Log in to the recorder's web interface or local display and select the affected channel.
- Open the relevant detection settings, commonly under Alert Center, Event, or Basic Settings > Motion Detect.
- Confirm the intended detection type is enabled. IMD requires basic Motion Detection to be enabled.
- For IVS, check the Smart Plan where required, the rule, its direction/trigger options, and supported target selections.
- Check the detection Period/Schedule. It must include the time when the event should be detected.
- Trigger a new event that meets the configured conditions. A Tripwire event requires crossing the configured line in the selected direction; choose rules and trigger options for the client's intended coverage.
For motion setup details, see Basic Motion Detection / Video Detection.
Detection period and recording schedule are different. The detection period controls when events can trigger. The storage schedule controls scheduled recording types.
Mobile app configuration: Remote Configuration edits the device's existing detection settings. There is no independent app-side detection configuration that must also be enabled.
Check the Recording Schedule and Record Mode
- Open Storage Settings > Schedule > Record, or the equivalent record-schedule menu.
- Select the affected channel.
- Open Setting beside a day, or use the schedule-editing controls.
- Keep General enabled if continuous recording is wanted. Add the event recording types for the intended detection setup using the table below.
- Set the required time periods and apply them to each intended day and channel. Save/apply the changes.
- Open Record Mode or Record Control and confirm the affected channel's main stream is set to Auto so it follows the schedule.
| Recording Type | Use |
|---|---|
| General — commonly green | Continuous/general recording during the scheduled period. |
| Motion — commonly yellow | Motion-event recording. For IMD compatibility, enable Motion and Intelligent together. |
| Intelligent / IVS — commonly blue | IVS/intelligent-event recording. Include this with Motion when configuring the recommended IMD-compatible schedule. |
Use the labels and color legend shown on your recorder; colors and names can differ between interfaces.
See Record Schedule Best Practices for examples of continuous recording with event types added.
Search IMD Human/Vehicle Results
- Open AI Search and select iMD. On older interfaces, use the corresponding Advanced Search or Smart Search function.
- Select the camera channel and the start/end date and time.
- Select the supported target type, such as Human or Vehicle, where those filters are available.
- Run the search and open the matching results.
- If no results appear, verify detection, the selected search category, channel, time range, and target filters before changing recording settings.
The AI Search menu can contain several separate functions. For IMD detections, use iMD; choose the search function corresponding to the detection feature you configured.
If results appear at the wrong time or seem missing from the expected period, check camera and recorder time using the guidance below.
Check Event Recording and Storage
If detection works but the expected event recording is missing, check the following:
- Record / Record Channel: In the detection event settings, confirm recording is enabled and the correct channel is selected. This is normally enabled by default, but should be checked when troubleshooting missing recordings.
- Recording schedule and mode: Check the affected channel, time period, recording types, and Auto record mode.
- Storage: Check that recording storage is available and functioning.
- Playback selection: Confirm the selected channel, date/time, and recording-type filters match the recording you want to review.
What the Alarm Recording Type Means
Alarm recording is associated with configured alarm inputs, such as an external sensor. An alarm input can trigger channel recording and produce an Alarm recording on the playback timeline. It is a different event category from Motion or Intelligent/IVS.
Alarm outputs control external equipment. Enabling an output is not a replacement for configuring Motion, IMD, or IVS detection and recording.
Check AI Processing and Supported Features
Confirm the intended feature is supported by the recorder/camera combination and that the configured channel count is within the applicable specifications.
- AI by Camera: The camera must support the intelligence being used, and the recorder must support receiving/searching the relevant events.
- AI by Recorder: Confirm the recorder supports the intended intelligence and the required number of channels. This also applies to hybrid systems using recorder-side AI with an available video feed.
- Processing mode: Confirm the feature requirements before switching between camera-side and recorder-side AI. Changing modes is not a general fix for missing results.
For supported recorder-side AI configuration, see Enabling AI by NVR.
Check Camera and Recorder Time
Incorrect or competing time settings can put recordings and AI results outside the time range being searched. Check the actual date/time, time zone, and applicable DST configuration on the recorder and cameras.
A camera's own NTP update can undo a time correction sent by the recorder. The devices may then use different timestamps, causing events to be indexed under an unexpected time.
| Camera Setup | Recommended Time Configuration |
|---|---|
| IC Realtime cameras on the NVR's rear PoE ports in Route mode | Let the NVR manage camera time. Cameras in this configuration do not have internet access. |
| IC Realtime cameras on an external switch or rear PoE ports in Bridge mode | Let the NVR manage camera time. Disable NTP on the cameras so it does not override recorder-supplied time. |
| Third-party cameras on an external switch or rear PoE ports in Bridge mode | Disable NVR-to-camera time synchronization and configure each camera to maintain its own correct time. |
| A mix of IC Realtime and third-party cameras | Treat the system as third-party: disable NVR-to-camera time synchronization and let each camera maintain its own time. |
After correcting the time configuration, trigger and search for a new event to confirm it appears under the expected date/time.
Quick Troubleshooting Reference
| Symptom | What to Check |
|---|---|
| Video exists, but timeline event markings are missing | Event recording types, recording linkage, Auto record mode, and playback filters. General/continuous video may still be available. |
| Human/vehicle events are missing from the timeline | Use AI Search > iMD for IMD human/vehicle results. Do not rely on timeline markings to determine whether those results exist. |
| No IMD results in AI Search | MD and IMD enablement, active period, target selection, feature support, search category, channel, time range, and camera/recorder clocks. Keep Motion + Intelligent scheduled for compatibility. |
| No event recording despite a live alert | Record/Record Channel linkage, storage schedule, Auto record mode, and storage availability. |
| Results appear under the wrong time | Actual clocks, time zone/DST settings, and competing NVR-to-camera and camera NTP updates. |
| Settings changed in the app differ from what was expected | The app's Remote Configuration changes the existing device settings; review the current device configuration. |
| Events are detected, but push notifications are missing | Use the separate Why am I not receiving push notifications in IC View Pro? guide. |
If the Problem Is Push Notifications
Detection must generate an event before it can produce the corresponding notification. A storage recording schedule is not required for push notification delivery; whether notification delivery works also depends on the app subscription and notification configuration.
If detection works but notifications do not arrive, see Why am I not receiving push notifications in IC View Pro?.
