How do I figure out video storage requirements?

Applies to Recorders Updated 2 min read

Option One

We provide our web site storage calculator here which can be found here: https://icrealtime.com/companion/tools/calculator/choose. This option only allows you to select one quantity, one resolution, one fps, one bit rate, & one compression type at a time. The primary purpose of this tool is to get a general idea for video storage calculation on small home or office installations that will utilize cameras with the same type of capabilities.

Option Two

Provides the ability to use an offline program we have dubbed "Recorder Storage Calculator". This allows you to mix and match various channels, bit rates, resolutions, and compression options. This is the recommended method since it is very rare to have all the same type of camera on a large installation site using all the same settings. You can download the program from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1A2SExyIS4RYY1MGlCeB1mJcUZSaEntTz/view?usp=sharing

STEP 1 - Click the Add Streaming button

STEP 2 - Now input the cameras encode settings using the drop down menus as displayed

STEP 3 - If you have multiple cameras with different encode settings you can click the Add Streaming button again to input another set of encode settings to be added to the calculation

STEP 4 - When you have selected the encode settings, then select the desired number of recording days as seen below under the Disk Requirement tab then click “Calculate Result Button” to calculate required storage capacity

STEP 5 - Alternatively, by switching the tab from Disk Requirement to Recording Day as seen in the below screenshot you can select the Storage Capacity to calculate how many days of storage the selected HDD size will record

STEP 6 - The IC Realtime Disk Calculator can also do a RAID 5 calculation. The RAID Calculator will calculate available capacity. To do this, select the RAID Calculator tab & select the number of device drives & HDD capacity
